Interested in using Twitter as a business tool but concerned that you don’t have the time to check your friends updates? If you answered yes, there is a new site called Twitter for Busy People that you might want to try out. This site requires you to enter your Twitter name and then provides you with icons of your friends who updated in the last hour, the last day, and more than 1 day ago. When you place your cursor over the icon you can read your friends updates. This is a very easy way to skim your friends updates in a couple of minutes.

Dell outlet uses Twitter as a marketing tool to “tweet” specials on their dell outlet website. This strategy has led to a direct $2 million in sales, and another $1million as a result of attracting large numbers of customers to the dell.com site.
This is a prime example of how micro-blogging can be used as a strong marketing tool for all different types of businesses.
Twitter Vs. Impersonation

Twitter has a broad range of users including many well known celebrities, musicians, sports figures, entrepreneurs, search engine marketing professionals, etc…..
Last month there was a lawsuit against Twitter by La Russa, the St. Louis Cardinals manager, after someone unknown created a Twitter account in his name and sent tweets (posts) on the site. La Russa claimed the tweets to be “derogatory and demeaning”.
As a result of this lawsuit, Twitter is going to be trying out verified Twitter accounts this summer. The verified accounts are going to be first tried out with a small group of people including some public officials, artists, etc. The verified accounts will have a seal showing they are authenticate. These accounts are not going to be tested yet on businesses, but will hopefully be available in the future.
Twitter has stated that impersonation violates their terms of service and they delete or suspend accounts known to be doing this. If you are an active Tweeter and follow many people on the site, be sure to check out official websites to ensure you are following the right person.
Twitter Predictions

I know I have been blogging a lot lately on Twitter, but I must say it’s a fun topic to write about because there are so many cool tools available! I have been playing around with some tools today, so I thought I’d share TwitterCounter.com with you if you aren’t already familiar with it.
TwitterCounter.com is a fast way to check up on your competitor’s Twitter statistics or your own Twitter statistics without having to login to Twitter and manually track your followers (or your competitors) each day. Twittercounter.com allows you to type in any Twitter username and then will provide you with a graph that shows activity for either last week, last month, or the last three months. It also shows you a prediction of how many Twitter followers a Twitter profile should have tomorrow, Twitter rank, average growth per day, etc.
Here is a screen shot of Getupdated’s Predictions:

There are many free tools that will score or grade your Twitter profile. One tool that I like to use is TwitterScore.net. All you have to do is type in your Twitter username and within a couple of seconds the tool analyzes your profile.
I tried this tool out for our Getupdated Twitter profile. Since we are new to Twitter, we are still lagging far behind other Tweeters, but hope to increase our score in the upcoming months.
Here is a glimpse of our Twitter Score:

Being a huge fan of celebrity gossip, I found this news very interesting. Ashton Kutcher (married to Demi Moore) is the first Twitter user to have over 1 million Twitter followers. To date, he has 1,289,318 followers. Ashton has even beat out CNN and other big celebrities and news portals.

Check out WeFollow.com

Twitter is becoming so popular that there is now a Twitter Directory organized with multiple categories to make it easy to find celebrities, musicians, online marketing professionals, etc to follow. On the homepage of this directory you will see the top 5 people in each category. The categories listed on the homepage are the categories that have the largest number of followers in each category. For example, when I wrote this post “Celebrity” was the top category, with Britney Spears being the most followed. Who would have thought!
So if you are an active Twitter user, check out WeFollow.com. If you would like to add yourself to the directory, all you have to do is reply to twitter.com/wefollow and list up to 3 categories you are interested in being listed under. For example, if Getupdated were to submit them self, they might suggest the following categories: @wefollow #seo #web #design
Google Signs up for Twitter

Nowadays, micro-blogging sites such as Twitter.com are taking over the web. Micro-blogging is when users send brief text updates which can either be viewed by anyone on the web or a restricted group. Many people use sites like Twitter to find out industry related news, update their friends on what they are doing, or for SEO purposes.
Evidence of how popular Twitter has become is when Google signed up for Twitter last week. (Matt Cutts has confirmed that this is a real Googler). You can follow Google on Twitter for news and updates from the search engine. Their Twitter page is similar to their Google Blog. If you are interested in following Google on Twitter, check out their page: twitter.com/google
